A large lotus floats in stormy waters while an enlightened Buddha seems to smile enigmatically in the background. Fishes swim freely across the acrylic expense and a golden Dharmachakra shines above the blooming lotus.

Artist Rawat Vongla explains: "By practicing the Dharma's noble truths, one will be serene, with a mind as clear and pure as a lotus that grows from mud. One will not become unsettled and will overcome suffering." The artist signs and writes his name in Thai at the bottom of the painting.

The teachings on the Four Noble Truths explain the nature of suffering, its causes, and how it can be ended. Dharmachakra, or Wheel of Dharma, is a symbol that represents the Buddha's teaching of the path to enlightenment.
