Description:
Aphisit Jromsri keeps the nang taloong tradition alive for you with this exquisite Kinnaree silhouette. Half-woman, half swan, Kinnaree is a beautiful being from the legendary Himmapan forest. The Himmapan forest is said to be located in the Himalaya mountains. The mythical creatures that dwell in the forest are combined animals.
Artisan Aphisit carves and hammers this silhouette from water buffalo hide. He paints it in gold and, after drying, places it on a velvet support. Next he frames it, with a protective glass and places a hook in the back.
Handcrafted leather silhouettes are an ancient tradition in the Thai kingdom, especially in the South. They are used as characters in shadow plays called nang taloong and as temple and palace art.
