Description:
Amporn hand-weaves this beautiful wall hanging with Thai silk. She uses colorful threads as well as silver and gold threads to brocade half of the piece with floral motifs. The other half of the piece is plain. This luxurious item can be either hanged on your walls or used to create an elegant outfit. The brocaded part used to make a skirt and the plain part to make a shirt.
The types of silk produced in different parts of the world have their own unique and textures and sheens. Thai silk has distinctive features that are different from the Chinese, Indian and Italian silks. It is light, soft to the touch and one of the finest fabrics in the world.
This wall hanging is made with "Pha Mai Yok Dok." "Pha Mai" means silk and "Yok Dok" is a weaving technique where the patterns are set in the warp with additional pattern heddles placed behind the main heddles and suspended over the warp with a support hung from the frame. For this item, the silver and gold threads are made of finely beaten silver and gold wrapped around a silk core.

Being handmade with a natural fiber, this item may vary slightly in colors, motifs, weight and size. The weave could also show small flaws or joins in the thread.

About the Artisan:
This product is handcrafted by Amporn Kantee. She was born into a farming family in 1953 and grew up in the village of her birth in Lamphun Province. "As a Thai woman from a small village, when I look back I think I have always done the best I could for my family and community. I am happy with what I do and what I have. I live a simple life and don’t want much more than what I have today," says the master weaver.
