Description:
Working by hand, master weaver Amporn uses Thai silk to weave this majestic skirt. The upper part is covered with rows of flowers, while the lower part features floral motifs intricately brocaded with genuine gold.
The types of silk produced in different parts of the world have their own unique and textures and sheens. Thai silk has distinctive features that are different from the Chinese, Indian and Italian silks. It is light, soft to the touch and one of the finest fabrics in the world.
This skirt is made with "Pha Mai Yok Dok." "Pha Mai" means silk and "Yok Dok" is a weaving technique where the patterns are set in the warp with additional pattern heddles placed behind the main heddles and suspended over the warp with a support hung from the frame. For this item, the gold threads are made of finely beaten gold wrapped around a silk core.
This is a unique item.
Being handmade with a natural fiber, this item may vary slightly in colors, motifs, weight and size. The weave could also show small flaws or joins in the thread.
